Good Morning! It is Thoughtful Thursday!
Thursday, March 19, 2020
Start the day today by writing in your journal (you took it home last Friday, remember?) (See how I threw that spelling word in there for some practice?) Since it is Thoughtful Thursday, write a paragraph about whatever is on your mind. Maybe you’re wondering how much longer we will do this distance learning. Maybe you are wondering about what exactly this COVID-19 you keep hearing about is. Maybe you’re wondering what’s on the agenda for the day. I don’t know what your thoughts are, so write them down. Send them to me in Google Chat today if you want. Talk with a parent about them too if you want.
Have I told you guys lately that I’m missing you? Well, I sure am! I miss your sweet smiles and hugs - though right now I would give elbow bumps or a wave. ;) I’m planning a way for us to “meet” together as a class or at least small groups. Stay tuned for more on that!
After your journal, here’s what you should work on today:
Math
ELA
Don’t forget Brain and Body Breaks!

After your journal, here’s what you should work on today:
Math
- Workbook pages 166, 167, 168, and 169. Don’t forget you took home a ruler if you said you didn’t have one at home. If you thought you had one and now don’t see it, use a tape measure if you have one. If not, there are inch and centimeter rulers (on paper) in the resource packet on the right hand side of the red folder you took home.
- Homework packet pages 185 and 186.
- We will have a quiz on this measurement lesson tomorrow in Google Classroom. You will need to take it during the day sometime. Please plan accordingly. Let me know if there is a problem with that for tomorrow (Friday).
ELA
- Work on your animal story. It should be published and turned in by tomorrow evening (Friday, March 20). Please let me know if you have any questions about it.
- Do 2 KidBiz articles and try to get 75% or more correct on the first attempt.
- Submit the Google Form on Reading Response Questions from yesterday if you did not do so yet. If you are having trouble finding it or submitting it, please let me know!
- Independent Reading - Find somewhere fun to read today - outside, on your bed, in a fort made out of chairs and blankets, etc. Read for (at least) 20 minutes.
- Look for an email or message with your log-in information for Spelling City. There are several games and activities there for you to practice the er words for the week. Tomorrow (Friday) you will need to take the spelling test on there.
Don’t forget Brain and Body Breaks!
- Try the slides for PE that Coach D sent.
- Have your parents sign up for Go Noodle and do a few dances or indoor recess activities. :)
Good Morning! I wish I was greeting you at our classroom door giving a wave, smile, hug, butterfly shake, or world language greeting. I guess this digital hello will have to do for now. Hola! Ciao! Bonjour! Bienvenidos! Shalom! Ni Hao!
I hope you and your family are well. I miss you guys already!
Here’s your job today as we get going with our online learning:
First, establish your learning space and routine. When will you work? All at once - in the morning or afternoon? Or will you spread it out throughout the day? Do you have to share materials or devices with siblings or parents? Where will you do your work? Think about limiting the distractions around you while you are working, but don’t forget to build in Brain Breaks.
Once you think you know where your space will be and when you will do your work, respond to the question in the Google Doc - Learning Space and Routine. Don’t forget to “Turn In” when you are finished.
Next, log in and try each of these digital resources that we will use for the next several weeks. Make sure they work from home. Let me know of any problems logging in. Remember most of these log-ins and passwords are in your binder glued or written on the orange file folder.
There will be other resources we will use, but these are ones we will use regularly. Please let me know of any problems using them from home. I will send additional resources as we need them.
Next up, read for at least 20 minutes today in a book of your choosing. Then, find something fun to do with your family.
“See” you tomorrow with a new task.
Take care and stay healthy!
